All in Place for Burger King/YMCA School Swim Meet

The 19th renewal of the Burger King/YMCA Preparatory and Primary Schools Swim meet will be held on May 10 and 11 at the National Aquatic Centre Independence Park.

The meet has grown from a small local meet to the largest 12 and under swim competition in Jamaica, attracting over 650 entrants from 50Schools in 2018.

Sabrena McDonald Radcliffe, Head of Sales and Marketing at Burger King, said that the brand is committed to supporting activities that promote teamwork, discipline, and general health and well being. 

Radcliffe said, “being active is so important for our children and swimming has proven to contribute significantly to the mental and physical ingredients necessary for them to grow into healthy and successful adults.

“We see tremendous potential for the growth and expansion of the sport in Jamaica, and we’re committed to doing all we can to continue this investment in our champion swimmers.”

General Secretary of the YMCA Sarah Newland Martin says the organization is encouraged by the level of interest in this year’s meet.

“We are very excited about the 2019 renewal of the swim meet. We’re seeing an increase in registration, especially among our primary schools. The 19th year will be special,” said Martin.

Immaculate and Stella Maris are the defending girls and boys’ champions for the  Preparatory Schools section.

Jessie Ripoll Primary and Windward Road Primary & Junior High are the defending girls and boys’ champions for the Primary Schools section.
