Awards Criteria

PEP Scholarship Criteria

  • Each applicant must provide certified copies of two term reports from the Grade 6 academic year
  • Must have at least an 85% or B+ average or 3.0 GPA
  • NB- applicants’ PEP results will be ranked by the Ministry of Education
  • Must be involved in at least two (2) extracurricular or community activities
  • The Staff PEP awards requires the parent to be employed with Burger King for at least 1 year

Secondary Scholarship Criteria

  • Must be accepted to commence CAPE in September 2024 at a recognized high school in Jamaica
  • Must have at least a 75% or B+ average
  • Each applicant must provide copies of their last 2 school reports
  • Sports Star Scholarships applicants must:
    • submit a video, not exceeding 1 minute explaining why they should be awarded the scholarship including accomplishments, aspirations, and involvement in school and/or community activities
    • be involved in at least one (1) sport and one (1) extracurricular or community activity

Tertiary Scholarship Criteria

  • Must be accepted to commence tertiary studies in September 2024 at a recognized university/college in Jamaica
  • Must have at least an 85% or B+ average or 3.0 GPA
  • Each applicant must provide copies of their CAPE and/or CSEC results
  • Must submit an essay not exceeding 500 words outlining why they should be awarded the scholarship
  • Must be involved in at least two (2) extracurricular or community activities

Primary School Scholarships

Open PEP Scholarships

Four (4) awards valued at $250,000 payable over 5 years of high school in annual $50,000 instalments.

  • Four (4) awards open to Grade 6 students island wide.

Valda Ormsby Award

One (1) award valued at $250,000 payable over 5 years.

  • Open only to Kellits Primary school Grade 6 students. 

Staff Primary Scholarships

Twenty-four (24) awards offered to top performing PEP students who are children of Burger King employees. 

  1. Four (4) BK Staff PEP Scholarship valued at $250,000 payable over 5 years of high school in annual $50,000 instalments.
  2. Twenty (20) BK Staff Primary Education Scholarships valued at $20,000.00 payable for 1 year of primary school only per awardee.
    1. Staff Primary Awards are exclusively offered to top performing PEP students who are children of Burger King employees.
    2. Staff Primary Scholarships are open only to primary school Grade 6 students who:
      • Are children of Burger King staff 
      • Parent(s) is/are currently employed at Burger King for at least 1 year
        • The parent must be employed at Restaurant Associates Ltd. (operators of Burger King) throughout the tenure of the scholarship. 

PEP Book Grants

Ten (10) Book Grants valued at $15,000.

  • Payable for one year only per awardee.

Secondary School Scholarships

BK Sports Star Scholarships

Two (2) BK Sports Star Scholarship (Secondary Social Media Sports scholarships) (Male and Female) each valued at $50,000.

    • Awarded to two exceptional 5th form student athletes who have excelled in their sport and have achieved an average of at least 75%
    • Payable for one year only per awardee

BK Staff Secondary Education Scholarship

Twenty (20) BK Staff Secondary Education Scholarships valued at $50,000.00.

  • Open only to high school students who:
    • Are children of Burger King staff 
    • Parent(s) is/are currently employed at Burger King for at least 1 year
      • The parent must be employed at Restaurant Associates Ltd. (operators of Burger King) throughout the tenure of the scholarship. 
  • Payable for one year only per awardee

Tertiary School Scholarships

Burger King Open Tertiary Scholarship

Four (4) Open scholarships awarded to four (4) exceptional high school students transitioning to university in need from any parish.

  1. Two (2) Burger King Open Tertiary Scholarships (Male and Female) valued at $1,200,000 payable over 3 years of tertiary studies.
  2. Two (2) Burger King Open Provisional Tertiary Scholarships (Male and Female) valued at $200,000 payable over 1 years of tertiary studies.

Lois Sherwood Scholarships

Two (2) scholarships awarded to two (2) exceptional 6th form students in need from St. Andrew High School for Girls.

  1. Lois Sherwood Scholarship valued at $1,200,000 payable over 3 years of tertiary studies. 
  2. Lois Sherwood Provisional Scholarship valued at $200,000 payable over 1 year of tertiary studies. 

Rodwell Lake Scholarships

Two (2) scholarships awarded to two (2) exceptional 6th form students in need from St. George’s College.

  1. Rodwell Lake Scholarship valued at $1,200,000 payable over 3 years of tertiary studies.
  2. Rodwell Lake Provisional Scholarship valued at $200,000 payable over 1 year of tertiary studies. 

Lois Sherwood Arts Scholarship

Lois Sherwood Arts Scholarship valued at $400,000 for a final year student at Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts

  1. Open to any exceptional student in need of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, starting their final year of studies in September 2024 (any faculty).

BK Foundation Tertiary Scholarship

  • BK Foundation Tertiary Scholarship valued at $200,000 for one (1) year of local tertiary studies at the University of the West Indies.

  • Must be accepted to commence tertiary studies in September 2024 at a recognized university/college in Jamaica.
  • Must have at least an 85% or B+ average or 3.0 GPA.
